Where does your sea moss come from?
Revivafy sea moss mainly comes from crystal blue tropical waters in Grenada which is home to world famous Grand Anse, Morne Rouge (BBC) and Paradise beaches. We also collaborate with the sea moss farmers in Union Island to bring you the premium sea moss from St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Do you supply sea moss from St. Lucia?
No. Because we are currently unable to work directly with the sea moss farmers to ensure that we maintain quality assurance: plot selection, eco-friendly methods, utilize recyclables, renewable energy for drying, and storage facilities.
How do I make sea moss gel?
Approximately 0.5 ounce of dried sea moss can produce 500 ml of sea moss gel.
The following method outlines three basic steps to make sea moss gel:
1. Rinse it
2. Soak it in spring, distilled or alkaline water for at least 3 hours!
Add key limes while soaking to neutralize the ocean taste.
Then remove the sea moss from the water.
3. Blend it with spring, distilled or alkaline water until it becomes smooth.
Add more water as needed to reach your desired consistency.
Pour into a glass jar and refrigerate for up to 4 weeks.
You can add the following from Grenada the 'Isle of Spice' for flavor: honey, all spice, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg.
Which type of sea moss is best?
As a rule of nature, the darker the sea moss is, the more nutrients it contains, hence, purple sea moss contains the most nutrients. However, it has a distinct taste of sea which is a reminder of the source of the sea moss. Green sea moss contains the most chlorophyll, as a result, it has similar nutritional value to green vegetables. Green sea moss is preferred by many customers to nourish their hair, nails and skin. Gold sea moss is most commonly used for infusing with other products since it has no distinct taste and does not affect the taste of the mixture.

Site selections:
Our sea moss plots are located in sheltered bays which are protected by the reef to reduce wave action, away from sediment runoff and non recreational areas.
Seedlings selection:
Our farmers carefully select seedlings when they are mature during harvesting for replanting in a process known as vegetative propagation. From experience, the best yield occurs when the plants are removed completely instead of pruning and allowing it to regenerate.
Planting:
Sea moss cultivation involves anchoring of seeded lines at each end and using empty soda bottles to keep the lines afloat. This is an environmentally friendly approach which uses recyclable materials ultimately this contributes to the protection of the planet.
Our team has also planted sea moss in the open sea or wild to produce wildcrafted sea moss which is obtained by divers.
Monitoring:
This is done daily once weather permits to ensure that the lines are securely in place to the raft particularly before 'rough seas'. That is the reason it is important to ensure the plot site is located in an area that provides natural ecosystem protection.
Harvesting:
After 6 weeks, sea moss is ready to be harvested which is done by removing the sea moss completely then reseed the lines again for the next crop which would be ready in 6-8 weeks. The entire process is an example of sustainable farming.
Our farmers clean the sea moss as much as possible in the sea water before removing it to dry. This is critical to ensure that our customers receive premium sea moss which does not contain mud, silt and other debris in it.
Post Harvesting/Drying:
During the drying process, it is important to protect the sea moss from the rain for the process to be completed. As the sea moss dries, salt crystals are removed by shaking which some people use when cooking.
The drying technique for sea moss varies to get the desired outcome.
Gold and Green sea moss
Gold and Green sea moss use a traditional solar drying method on elevated beds similar to cocoa beans that is used to produce chocolate. During this process, the raw sea moss is turned over several times for air to circulate so that the moisture can be removed. This is critical to increasing the shelf life of the sea moss during storage. This method allows for a larger volume of sea moss to be produced in comparison to the other methods that require more specialization. Green sea moss is a natural mutation of gold sea moss.
Purple sea moss
Purple sea moss is dried using the hanging method on lines which exposes the raw sea moss to 360 degrees sunlight in the open air. This is a delicate technique which requires specialized attention by our trained experienced staff. This method was developed and implemented after conducting research on the drying of similar natural products and many iterations to ensure that the nutrients are retained during the drying process. Many customers notice a distinct taste of the sea which reminds them of the source for the superfood.
